First Term Plans and Goals - Our main objective for the first three years in Papua New Guinea (country profile) is to learn the language and the culture adequately enough to begin church planting. We are planning on attending a language and culture school in Madang. The school is called the Pacific Orientation Course (POC) and is hosted by the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL). The school is a fourteen week program. The first eight weeks are spent in the classroom learning Tok Pisin, one of the three main languages spoken in Papua New Guinea. The following five weeks will be spent living in bush huts to immerse us in the culture. The final week will be a follow up week. Each of the three families will be split up during the time spent in the bush.

After completing the language study in Madang, our team will be moving to Goroka, which is located in the Eastern Highlands Province. We will be living among the Bena Bena tribe to continue learning the culture and biblical context of the culture. The Bena church is a thriving church that consists of fourteen different congregations. We want to learn from them how they have gone about planting churches.

While living among the Bena Bena people, we will be researching and conducting survey trips to find unreached people groups in hopes to locate a nearby tribe that has yet to hear the gospel. This research will determine the specific details of our ministry (i.e. where and who). It is possible that we will have to move from Goroka to live closer to the tribe or even among them.

We are planning a furlough after the first term to last about six months. This time will be used to stay connected to our supporting churches/individuals and to spend time with our families that we are leaving behind.

Mission Trips - To Every Tribe will continue to take students and others who are interested on short-term trips to PNG. As we become more comfortable with our situation we will be more involved in the hosting and facilitating of these trips. We welcome any person or group that would like to come either with To Every Tribe or on their own. We will gladly take groups to see the work we are involved in. It is expensive to get to PNG so being on the ground as long as possible is preferable. Allow at least two weeks for the trip as it takes two days to travel each way.PNG_Profile.htmlshapeimage_1_link_0
